« Tips On Choosing A TV Stand   Batman And His Past »

by Jamie T. Winston

If you’re like me (a huge Beatles freak) then 9/9/9 is basically Christmas Day! This is the day that new remastered Beatles CDs are finally coming out, 22 years after the original Beatles CDs were released.

The CD versions from 1987 are considered to an example of very poor mastering which is why Beatles fans have been wanting to hear these classic albums remastered for so long.

It’s not just the new CD remasters that are exciting Beatles fans, it’s also the fact that the original mono mixes of their albums will be released in a mono box set on 9/9/9 too!

These new mono mix CDs will be the first time that many younger Beatles fans get to hear these albums as they were originally intended to be heard because it’s the first time that the mono mixes have ever been on CD.

Why should we care about mono mixes in 2009? Isn’t this an outdated way of listening to music? Well certainly nobody is mixing in mono these days, but it is worth hearing these original mixes because that’s how the albums were originally intended to be heard.

Mono was the standard at the time and because of that The Beatles spent a lot more time on the mono mixes than they did on the stereo mixes. In fact the stereo mixes were thrown together rather hastily in comparison.

Some claim that the mono versions of Sgt. Pepper & Revolver are far better than the stereo mixes. Those of us who grew up with the stereo versions find that hard to believe, but I think we are very curious to hear what these old timers are talking about, too.

But new CDs are not the only Beatles gear coming out on September 9th, there’s also the new Beatles Rock Band game. It looks like a lot of fun.

The “instruments” for the game even look like the real Beatles instruments (check out Ringo’s drums!) This will the first Rock Band game which allows for harmony singing (with three microphones you can actually do three part harmonies!)
