« Can Joe Johnson Lead the Atlanta Hawks to Another Playoff Birth?   Learning Music Production From Home »

by Luke Feldbaum

Baron Davis has a lot of questions coming into the season to answer. The Clippers guard missed 17 games last season, and in the games he did play, he was somewhat of a letdown. With a healthier team around him, and the addition of #1 pick Blake Griffin, will Davis return to his old form?

Not being able to win 20 games as a professional basketball team is very embarrassing. The Clippers were 27th in scoring and 25th in defense - at least they weren’t dead last in both categories.

Often times, who to select at number one may depend on a team’s needs or preferences. The choice was clear this time around. Blake Griffin had established himself as a dominant player in college basketball, and the overwhelmingly obvious choice at number one.

He does have noticeable flaws - not the best ball handling skills and a lack of a jumpshot - but those can be developed over time. He’s one of the most NBA ready players I’ve seen in a long time, but only time will tell what he’s going to turn into.

It looks as though Davis is ready to accept the fact that he no longer can take over a game at any moment. He could do that in Charlotte, and also at Golden State, but he is declining a bit with age catching up.

The field in the NBA Western Conference is simply too crowded and competitive for that to initially happen. Still, there’s no reason in the world that the Clippers shouldn’t win more games next season than they did last year.

The Clippers will struggle to get points this upcoming season it would seem. Blake Griffin must carry the load and try getting more shot attempts for Baron Davis - who by his standards had an awful season. Marcus Camby missed 20 games and is getting older also.

It can be another long and painful season - or it can be a season where the Clippers change their culture and win some games.
