Music as far as anybody knows differs in every country. The world possesses a rich heritage in music that is very different because of the musical instruments that they used to play. Ethnic instruments are part of our culture and legacy to the world in which we can really call our musical treasures. Due to the diversity of culture from different people and having creative imaginations, different musical instruments are created. These world instruments produce a feel of a familiar sound with rhythm and melody that we can relate to.

The classical world instruments range from drums, strings, wind, percussion and other cool instruments which can be a challenge to be familiarize with. They are numerous and all of which have rich heritage and originated in different parts of the world. Getting to know some of the famous ethnic instruments that are being used up until today may it is on concert halls or even on the street can be an educational but fun experience.

Considered as one of the oldest world instruments are the drums. As a matter of fact, the basic design has not been changed at all. The Ashiko Drum which is an African drum that originated from Nigeria is one basic example. It is popular in festivals and street parades. Having its big deep sound, it makes you focus more on the rhythm and Tall people prefer it. It is great for band that plays in drum circles and can be used for solo play. Other examples are bodhram, bongos, congas, djembe, doumbek and tabla drums.

String instruments can produce incredible flexible sounds. These instruments are flexible enough to be played in different music genres. The string instrument balalaika is a Russian folk instrument that can be played from folk music to classical and even rock music. It can be a replacement for violins, violas and violoncellos in orchestras. Another string instrument is the Celtic harp, it is considered as one of the most romantic of all instruments. It is perfect for people who want to achieve tranquility and for meditation purposes for the relaxing sound which this instruments produce. Lute, oud, psaltery, saz, sitar, mandolin, tanpura and bouzouki are other example of string instruments that are popular in world music.

Another great way to reminisce our rich heritage and culture can be achieve by listening to the distinct tunes that the wind instruments. A good example of a wind instrument that can really produce a humming sound and is preserved and supported by the active musical community is the renowned Celtic bagpipe. Other examples of wind instruments are didgeridoo, harmonium, rag dung and shofar; all have different styles and each can produce distinct sounds.

Percussion instruments on the other hand have many types and have traditional functions as well. The gong is a kind of percussion instrument that is used for different occasions such as ceremonies, TV shows, weddings; start and end of contests, and many other occasions. Different types and sizes can produce different kinds of pitch. Caxixi, cuica, kalimba thumb piano, singing bowls and tambourines are other examples of percussion instruments still being used and preserved by the ethnic music community.
