Everyone loves a clear television picture in high-def. The increased pixel count makes it so and eventually all TV broadcast will be in high-def.

HD is the answer if you’re looking for the clearest viewing picture money has to offer. Actually it doesn’t cost that much extra and you get twice the number of pixels that you would have seen with conventional analog TV. There are more than 130 high-def channels you can view with the leading satellite broadcaster.

For digital television broadcast there are two different pixel ratios. A non-HD standard definition fixed-pixel display would have 704 pixels across each of 480 scanning lines (704 x 480). This count is the total number of vertical lines stacked for the top to the bottom. In this instance there are 704 pixels for each scanning line.

HD TV stands for high definition television and is one of the latest enhancements to the digital world of television. The picture quality is much improved with brighter clean colors and the pictures are much sharper than the older models.

In addition to a much improved picture quality and sharpness the surround sound programs give the impression that you are sitting inside the picture and the sound is all around just as the name suggests. Plasma and LCD sets which come with a flat screen produce the high definition much more clearly than standard sets.

For the technically limited, its probably not necessary to know anything more technical than that, except for the fact that even a television which is advertised as HD Ready does not mean it can be used to show HD programs. It means it is ready to receive the HD programs but it is necessary to have an HD box, to actually watch the programs in high definition.

The term HD TV is tossed around a lot these days, but you may not know exactly what it is yet. Well the HD is there to stand for high definition, but in some cases that is not a sufficient answer. Read on and hopefully you can learn a bit more about HD and how it is utilized these days.

Now you should know firstly that in order to view high-def TV you will actually need a set that is capable of rendering it. High definition means that the picture displayed is of a higher resolution- you may have heard of 1080p or similar terms. These relate to picture resolutions, and if your set is not HD capable then it does not matter whether the signal or source of your picture is HD or not.

The choice to use broadcast television is becoming more common. The cost of cable is frequently seen as one place to tighten the budget. Even a high end HDTV antenna is likely less than one month of cable fees. Getting a good antenna can seem like rolling the dice, but that is not the case. The answers to some questions can make your choice much simpler. It all starts with those answers.

Finding out which channels are available in your location is not difficult. However, signal strength will vary. Line of sight is important and the direction of the signal is important too. If there are mountains, houses or buildings blocking the signal, you may need more than the simplest antenna.

That high definition TV in the middle of your living room might be lacking one thing which is really important: television shows in HD. Sure, you may have your DVD players hooked up, but what about your everyday TV? How exactly does an HDTV antenna become valuable to your viewing life?

A lot of people may prefer cable services to supply them with these programs, but little do they know that a lot of networks nowadays offer free-to-air television shows in high definition, as well. As time goes by, probably all networks would then be offering the same as what you get from HD cable companies. On the other hand, your typical antenna may not be sufficient to give you a very nice HD signal.

The History of HD TV

by Zeeman Haus

The purchase of an HDTV is a significant one and should not be taken lightly. When evaluating the overall picture of an HDTV, the contrast ratio, along with screen resolution, should both be taken into consideration. However, if a person is looking for one that offers the brightest colors and darkest blacks, then the contrast ratio should be the number one priority.

Contrast ratio can be defined as a unit of measurement of the ratio between the brightest (white) and darkest color (black) that the specific television can produce. Traditional CRT televisions, plasma, LCD and LED all produce different levels of the darkest blacks and brightest whites.
