Music is loved by all and in all forms. The Broadway industry is booming with excitement for Billy Elliot, the new musical, recreated for broadway from the critically acclaimed movie in the same name. The movie and the broadway show both inspire motivational feelings to achieve one’s hearts desire. The story is touching and exciting. It was written by Lee Hall in 2000. A definite tear jerker, the story rotates around with the hero, Billy, a coal miner’s who one day discovers that he was meant to pirouette. The scene is set in a fictitious town called Everington, in Country Durham, UK. The performance realistically depicts the day to day struggles of the working class as well as Billy’s feeling that are torn between choosing the path that he desires and choosing what his father wants of him.

Billy is motherless and all of 11. he lives with his father who is uneducated but loving, his older brother, who faithfully follows his father’s idealistics and a grandmother who had an unhappy married life. Billy’s father is a strong believer in hard-work. He looks up on dancing as a pass time for the rich which would not further any livelihood. Naturally, billy’s older brother thinks the same way. The only person who shows full faith in billy is his ballet teacher who has an intuition that there is a great future awaiting Billy. She takes it up on herself to train him.

Finally the day arrives for Billy to go to London to audition, after all the practise, the town comes together to help him set off on his quest. Another character in the play is Billy’s best friend, who dresses up in his sister’s clothes. At one point, the grandmother gives up her shabby housecoat to shake a leg during the play. Billy’s mother’s ghost too makes an appearance or two. The songs are pretty groovy.
