Television sets or television is an invention of several scientists whose discoveries date back to 1831 when Joseph Henry and Michael Faraday discovered electromagnetism. Since that time, many scientists went through painstaking work to design a device that can produce both audio and visual images. The “tube” as we call them today, is a telecommunication device used to display electronic images transmitted by a television channel through radio waves. The term television comes from the Greek word “tele” meaning far, and Latin word “visio-n”, meaning sight.
Television sets has become part of modern living since its inception around the 1940’s. In the United States, around 98% of households have at least one television set while 61% subscribe to cable television. Aside from its entertainment purposes, television sets have become educational tools, as well as advertising media. The average American household watches television seven hours a day.

“It keeps going, and going, and going…” Who could forget Energizer’s drum-playing rabbit television commercial that easily captured a lot of viewer’s attention, especially children, with its famous line being repeated over and over. It was definitely a simple yet very effective TV commercial, with the power of reminding consumers what brand to buy when in a store’s counter and purchasing batteries; particularly those with their kids saying “let’s buy the rabbit …” and goes on with the commercial’s famous lines.
Television commercials are definitely a very effective way of selling products, services, organizations, and ideas. The fact that millions of people watch the television for more than a few hours everyday makes it a very effectual means of reaching more people and making an impact to prospect consumers. Although it may be a rather expensive way of presenting a product, its return on sales are often three-folds than what was spent on the television commercial.

Satellite television uses satellites positioned in the region of space called the Clarke belt (about 37,000 kilometers or 22,300 miles above the equator), which receive broadcast signals of terrestrial origin and reflect them to satellite dishes on the surface of the Earth. Orbiting satellites provide subscribers with hundreds of channels from various locations around the world. These satellites are equipped with “transponders”, which act as carriers of signals back to the Earth.
Satellite signals are on C band, Ku band, or Ka band. These can also be called frequency similar to those received by radio or television systems (i.e. VHF or UHF). Satellite dishes as small as 18″ in diameter or as wide as nine meters receive these signals. The dish serves as a collector and reflector of signals. After which, it throws the signals toward the feedhorn (the center part of a satellite dish).
